Learning is easier when you have a teacher who is passionate about the subjects they teach and brings this enthusiasm into their lessons.
Are you a parent of a child in elementary or middle school? We offer a variety of high-quality science courses designed to delight and enrich your student.
Our mission is to embrace the pursuit of excellence both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage critical thinking and emphasize the learning process over rote memorization.
Life Science is designed to serve as a solid foundation for the later study of upper-level Biology and to promote discovery and interpretation of the characteristics of creation. Topics to be investigated include taxonomy, ecology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, botany, zoology including dissection, and human anatomy and physiology.
Core course for 7th - 8th grade students
2 hours/week & 2-5 hours homework/week for 16 weeks per semester
Day and Time: Mondays and Wednesdays
8:30 - 9:30 am or 9:40-10:40 am
Within the context of this scientific exploration, students will acquire inquiry and problem-solving skills and will apply what they learn by formulating and testing their own hypotheses and drawing conclusions. A thorough exposure to the scientific method will be augmented by the completion of a student designed and conducted science project.
At this age, students benefit from an in-depth study of a specific science. This year’s offering is life science and next year’s will be physical science. These will serve them well and prepare them to excel later in their high school classes of biology, chemistry, and physics.
Earth science is the study of the earth’s structure, properties and processes including the specific sciences of geology, meteorology, and oceanography. In this class, students will learn unique properties of gems, rocks, and minerals; the causes and effects of volcanoes and earthquakes; weather patterns of tornadoes and hurricanes, and much more. The course will also include astronomy so that students see not only the magnificence of our own planet earth, but that of other astronomical bodies.
Core Course for 6th - 7th grade students
1 hour/week & 2 hours required homework for 16 weeks/semester
Day and Time:
Wednesdays 1:45-2:45 pm
Encinitas
Middle school is also a time in which learning good study habits and building study skills becomes crucial. How does one assimilate information effectively, study for tests efficiently, manage time given an assignment with multiple steps, etc. This class will provide guided practice in these endeavors in the context of learning earth science. The skills learned here should serve students well in all their classes throughout their middle and high school years.

An exposure to the scientific method will be augmented by the completion of a very simple, student designed and conducted science project.
Because science is simply a guided “looking-at-things,” every child can be a scientist. In this class, young scientists will investigate the world of chemistry by engaging in games, labs, experiments, and other activities. They will not only create chemical reactions in the lab (mini explosions, surprising color changes…), they will come to understand the reasons behind them!
Core Course for 1st-4th grade students.
1 hour per week for 16 weeks
Day and Time (choose one):
Mondays 10:50-11:50 am
Mondays 12:35-1:35 pm
Mondays 1:45-2:45 pm
Encinitas
This course has been developed to teach and to delight, with the end goal being for your student to be able to write a very simple chemical equation. Each week will advance their understanding one step further; each will also foster opportunities for experiences that are memorable and fun.

Topics will include astronomy, geology, meteorology, seismology, and more. In other words, we will investigate the moon through my field telescope; experiment with rocks, minerals, and gems; create weather instruments; and build and erupt volcanoes.

If your child has ever marveled at the heavens or asked about the earth, this is the class for them.
Chemistry is a wonderful field for upper elementary aged students because the discovery that they experience delights them so! Both the reactions observed in the lab (mini explosions, surprising color changes…) and the reasons behind them are fascinate them! This course has been developed to foster as many of these light-bulb experiences as possible.
Core Course for 4th - 6th grade students

The end goal is for your student to be able to write and balance a very simple equation. To do this, we first need to understand the nature of an atom, how atoms combine to form molecules, and how molecules interact in chemical reactions. This is often taught at the high school level, but, with some simplifications, we can do it! Each week will advance your student’s understanding one step further. Each will also provide an experience that is memorable and fun!
The study of physics allows us to discover the foundational elements of the universe and the building blocks of creation! Throughout the semester, students will learn how the universe functions through this exploration of matter and energy and the forces that affect it. Topics will include mechanics, laws of motion, energy, machines, electricity, magnets, waves, sound, and light.

Lessons will be supplemented with labs, experiments, games, and other activities to create a joyful and engaging learning environment. Specialty equipment such as dry ice, air pucks, toy race cars, levers, catapults, pulleys, electricity sets, magnets, and more will add to the fun as students explore the intricacies and mysteries of the physical world.
